What Tests Are Involved?
Our doctors perform a few basic evaluations to check the health and function of your eyes. These include:
External & Internal Examination
Your doctor will use a slit lamp microscope to examine the surface and internal aspects of your eye. With this tool, they can detect any abnormalities or signs of possible diseases, such as diabetes or hypertension.
Tonometry
A tonometer will be used to test the internal pressure of your eye or intraocular pressure. High intraocular pressure can be a sign of glaucoma or other degenerative eye diseases.
At Calgary Family Eye Doctors, we use the ICare Tonometer. This means no puff of air in your eye! This helps to keep your eye exam as comfortable as possible.
Visual Acuity
Visual acuity testing assesses how well you see.
The most common test used is a standard letter chart, called a Snellen chart, where we will get you to read lines of letters at a certain distance. We may also combine the letter chart with a phoropter to determine what prescription lens is required to correct your vision.
We will also examine your peripheral vision and how well your eyes work together (binocular vision).
