Prevention & Treatment
Preventing Cataracts
Although there is no sure-fire way to prevent cataracts, you can slow their progression by adopting healthy habits for your eyes. Things like protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays and eating foods rich in antioxidants can keep cataracts from developing too quickly.
Treating Cataracts
Treating cataracts in the early stages will typically involve new lenses for your glasses to give you the clearest possible vision. If they develop to a point where glasses or contacts no longer provide clear vision, we can refer you to an ophthalmologist for surgical removal.
Cataract surgery involves removing the clouded lens in your eye and replacing it with a clear, artificial lens. Depending on your unique situation, the implanted lens may provide clear enough vision that you will not need glasses or contacts.
We will help co-manage the treatment of your cataracts if surgery is a good option for you.
