Advanced Eye Care Technology

Our team at Calgary Family Eye Doctors have invested in modern technologies to provide you with the most comprehensive eye exams possible. Not every eye care practice offers this level of technology, which sets us apart in SW Calgary. These tools allow us to conduct more thorough evaluations, often detecting eye conditions earlier than standard exams.

Using this modern equipment also makes your eye exam more comfortable and efficient. Many of our technologies reduce the need for dilation or invasive procedures, helping you get a clear picture of your eye health with less discomfort.

The technology we offer in our practice includes:

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (Cirrus 5000)
  • Humphrey Field Analyzer
  • optomap
  • Humphrey Frequency Doubling Technology (FDT)
  • iCare IC100 Tonometer
  • Auto Kerato-Refractometer
  • PanoMap
  • MYAH

Together, these technologies enable us to deliver personalized, proactive care that protects your vision today and for years to come. Visit us to experience our technology for yourself.

ZEISS Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Our ZEISS OCT provides detailed, cross-sectional images of your retina, giving us a precise view of your eye’s health. This technology allows us to:

  • Measure key retinal areas like retinal layers, macula, and optic nerve head (ONH)
  • Assess the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell complex (GCC) for early signs of damage
  • Examine the vitreoretinal interface and detect subretinal fluid
  • Detect and monitor conditions such as glaucoma, wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), central serous retinopathy, and retinal detachment
  • Identify changes before symptoms appear, allowing earlier intervention to protect your vision

This level of detail helps us deliver effective, personalized care.

MYAH for Myopia Management

MYAH is a specialized device that supports effective myopia management by monitoring myopia progression in your kids and tracking axial length changes over time. With MYAH, we can also:

  • Detect early signs of worsening myopia, allowing us to start treatment sooner
  • Provide tailored interventions that slow myopia progression, especially in children and young adults
  • Fit contact lenses with greater precision for improved comfort and clearer vision

By using MYAH, we offer proactive care that helps protect you and your family’s vision for the long term.

optomap Retinal Scan

The optomap is an ultra-widefield retinal imaging system that can capture up to 200 degrees of your retina in a single image, far wider than traditional retinal photos.

This allows us to examine both the central and peripheral retina in great detail, often without needing to dilate your pupils. With the optomap, we can detect retinal tears, detachments, diabetic retinopathy, and other eye conditions earlier and in a more comfortable way for you.

Benefits of optomap imaging include:

  • Noninvasive and painless procedure suitable for all ages
  • Faster and more comfortable exam experience with little to no need for pupil dilation
  • Early detection of eye diseases
  • Detailed images that can be saved and compared over time to monitor changes

iCare IC100 Tonometer

Calgary Family Eye Doctors uses the iCare IC100 tonometer as a modern alternative to the traditional air puff test. This device measures your intraocular pressure quickly, gently, and with great accuracy. Because it does not require anesthetic drops, the test is often more comfortable and less intimidating for patients of all ages.

Regular eye pressure checks are essential for early glaucoma detection, and the iCare IC100 helps make this process easy and stress-free. By choosing this technology, we prioritize your comfort while capturing the information we need to protect your vision.

Humphrey Field Analyzer

The Humphrey Field Analyzer is the gold standard tool for assessing your visual field. It plays a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions like glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmic disorders, and other issues affecting the optic nerve or retina.

Using automated static perimetry, this device creates a detailed and reliable map of your entire field of vision. This high level of precision helps us spot functional vision loss early, so we can take proactive steps to protect your sight.

Committed to Quality Care with Our Technology

Investing in technology means Calgary Family Eye Doctors can offer you eye care that is both comprehensive and comfortable. Our commitment to the latest diagnostic tools supports our mission of changing lives through eye care, providing you with the eye care you deserve.

The technologies highlighted here are just some of the tools we use to deliver thorough, comfortable, and personalized eye care. We are always exploring new advancements to better serve our patients and protect their vision for years to come.
